Whirlpool Washer Troubleshooting

Welcome to the Whirlpool Washer Troubleshooting page, hopefully we will be able to guide you through any problems you may be having with your washing machine. Whirlpool are an established manufacturer of washers and their products are usually of the highest standard, with their machines being considered some of the most reliable on the market. However, unfortunately things can occasionally go wrong which is where the Whirlpool Washer Troubleshooting page steps in to guide you through any problems you may be having.
Usually the solution to any problems you are having with your Whirlpool Washer will be very simple and in many cases you should easily be able to troubleshoot  it yourself. However in some instances the problem will be more complicated and a repairman will need to be called.

If your washer will not start (the program will not begin) then you should first check that it is plugged in properly at the mains. If it is plugged in properly then check that the circuit breaker has not been tripped (check your fusebox). If you have done this and it is still not working then check make sure the door is locked properly as the cycle will not begin unless the machine has validated that the door is locked. If this the the problem then it may be either a faulty lock or a fault within the circuit which checks that the door is locked.

If your washer will not fill then you should begin by checking the inlet hose for any kinks or blockages. Alternatively a faulty lid-switch or timer could be the cause of your problem.

If your washer fills with water and spins but the water does not drain then this could be the result of a few different problems. Most likely this will have occurred because of a small piece of clothing such as a sock being lodged in the drain. Removing this obstruction should fix the problem. However, if you can find no piece of clothing lodged in the drain then it may be that you have a faulty pump pulley. In order to fix this it is required that you replace the pump and so it may be best to call a qualified technician to do this.

If your washer is too noisy then this could result from various factors. It may be that you simply need to readjust the feet of your appliance to ensure that it is positioned correctly. Alternatively the excess noise could result from the clothes within the machine being unbalanced, in this instance the noise is likely to manifest itself as a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle.. You simply need to stop the cycle, remove the clothes from the tub, and then redistribute them so that they are spread out more evenly. If your washer has been overloaded then you may need to remove some clothes from the tub before restarting the cycle.

To aid you in troubleshooting your Whirlpool Washer it is possible to run a test cycle on your machine in order to test if all of the components are working properly. You will find instructions of how the run the test cycle in your washer’s owners’ manual. Our Whirlpool Duet Washer troubleshooting page gives you instructions on how to do this for the popular Duet Washer and the required sequence is very similar if not identical for other models – so try experimenting if you do not have the owners’ manual to hand.
